Laura Toxvaerd (b. 1977) is a composer, saxophonist and educator teaching at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory, Copenhagen. Her compositions are released worldwide on 12 albums with John Tchicai, Marilyn Mazur, Carsten Dahl, Jacob Anderskov a.o. and performed in USA, Canada, France, Netherlands, Belgium, Finland, Norway, Sweden and Denmark. Scores are published by Edition S (http://www.edition-s.dk/composer/laura-toxv%C3%A6rd) and in the book anthology Notations21 (Ed. Theresa Sauer, Mark Batty Publisher, NYC). She has been awarded the prestigious three-year working scholarship by the Danish Arts Council.
In 2016 Danish publisher Forlaget Spring released Laura Toxværd's Compositions - 18 Graphic Scores (http://forlagetspring.dk/rapidcart-157/index.html). This art book with reflective texts about the artistic process is a result of Toxvaerd's artistic research project as an adjunct lecturer at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory (https://rmc.dk/en/blog/toxvaerd-blog-5-prelude-project-presentation#.V7Gt4CbynIV).
Toxvaerd started playing at 9 and as a teenager she was performing as a professional jazz and rhythm&blues saxophonist. As she developed her artistic practice her particular interests became avant-garde, free jazz and experimental music. She has studied at Rhythmic Music Conservatory, Copenhagen, at Conservatoire Nationale Supérieur, Paris, and has earned a Master of Arts (philosophy of music education) from Aarhus University, Denmark.
