Kresten Osgood – URIAS ENSEMBLE

URIAS ENSEMBLE is Kresten Osgood’s latest group, consisting of 15 extraordinary and highly diverse musicians handpicked by Osgood himself from the Danish creative music scene.

The music on this album is truly something else. It features nine brand-new original compositions by Osgood, with an expansive instru- mentation that includes - but is not limited to - two trumpets, five saxophones, trombone, tuba, two guitars, synth, flutes, violin, bass, cello, drums, and plenty of singing. Musically, the album is a breath of fresh air to say the least. It moves with great confidence and lightness, positioning itself at the intersection of big-band tradition, pop songwriting, and free jazz, while showcasing incredible soloistic feats from the band members.

The project was born out of a profound need to create music that stands for something. The group's name comes from the Danish expres- sion "uriaspost", which refers to an exposed, dangerous frontline position where failure is highly probable. In Osgood’s own words:

“Our world has shifted. The concept of truth is being challenged, and never before has it been more important to define what it means to be human. We are standing on a 'uriaspost.' We are at the frontline. We are being shot at, but we don't hide, we don't stand around trying to look pretty, and we are not afraid to say what we mean. There is something worth fighting for, and we must use our voices as artists. As I see it, new creative music occupies the 'uriaspost' of modern society— and this is the Urias Ensemble.”
