Nordic Waste is a new band, but the musicians are not new to each other: they are - except the rising star Ivar Asheim - all wellknown from the Danish jazz scene: from the Danish Radio Big Band to the more freewheeling impro stage.

Founder and main composer is bassist Peter Danstrup who has been heard since the 1970ies in bands with the late Danish jazz ikons John Tchicai and Marilyn Mazur; he is also a signifikant force on the fusion and indie scene. In this new constellation he wants to develop and deepen the scandinavian jazz concept - challenging it’s more aesthetic and serious aspects without taunting the past.

This self-titled debut album contains new editions of the 1929 Jelly Roll Morton's composition New Orleans Bump, Mingus’ rarely heard Tijuana Gift Shop as well as a 2026 tribute to Marilyn Mazur, the most succesful Danish jazz musician on the international scene, with whom Danstrup has been playing in bands like Six Winds and MM4 – but also some of Danstrup’s earlier compositions such as Lost and Found (1976) and Felicia og Friheden (1985) gets a cleanup.

Apart from the Norwegian drummer Ivar Asheim, the frontline includes the Swedish trombone phenomenon Peter Dahlgreen and the omnipresent tenor saxophonist Anders Banke.

The band’s name will give most Danes some rather unpleasent associations to a scandalous Danish company who tried to cash in on the cleanup of contaminated soil. In their attempts they almost erased a whole village and subsequently evaded responsibility.

Peter Dahlgren – Trombone
Anders Banke – Saxophone
Peter Danstrup – Acoustic Bass Guitar
Ivar Asheim – Drums
